Report: | We arrived at Wilderness bright eyed and bushy tailed after 'The Brussels Squash Tour' this weekend just gone, some arrived later than others! Ali needs a new navigator after taking a trip down to junction 6 and around a few villages!!
Coach V Harvey
Lacking there number 1 Harvey stepped in but unfortunately Coach was too good on the night and took the match 3-0. Coach maintains his unbeaten record!
Keith (bruiser) v Graham (the sailor)
Bruiser's been in training since coming back from holiday and was fired up to play his old adversary but Graham was there to pick up the baton. Bruiser made hard work of it in the first but eventually took it 9-7, it was plain sailing after that 9-2 & 9-2 to take the match 3-0.
Smiler v Mick
I didn’t see any of this game but although there’s more fat on a chip Mick’s look of fitness was all smoke and bubbles and was no match for Smiler’s pace and tenacity, allegedly! Smiler won 3-0 despite a big effort by Mick in the third.
Big Andy v Bob
There was I bashing the ball up and down on court with Bob no ware to be seen, some time later Bob turns up after an extensive warm up regime and was obviously keen to win. Having fallen asleep Big Andy lost the first 9-1, coach offered some good advice like wake up and move to the ‘T’ after you’ve hit the ball! Big Andy improved in the second to level the score 1-1. Bob decided to start winking at me just before serving or maybe his boyfriend was in the gallery, tactics we think!! This didn’t do the trick, Big Andy took the next two in his stride 9-1 & 9-1 and the match 3-1.
Ali v Chris
Ali walked on court with one goal in mind, to continue to win as he did at the weekend, as the first game progressed Ali became more in control with his devastating lob to the back of the court, Chris couldn’t dig those balls out of the corner with a miner’s hat and a shovel! More of the same in the second took Ali to a 2-0 lead. Chris not happy with this, came out all guns blazing to take the third 9-1. This had 5 sets written all over it, Ali wanted his money's worth and there was us dying for a pint!! The forth proved to be a real battle getting to 8-8 with serve being exchanged many times then Chris took a 9-8 lead only to loose the serve, this was Ali’s chance, once again Ali put Chris into the back corner, a good boast but Ali was waiting to scrape the ball off the wall to what we thought was a point but it was deemed a scoop (jury is still out on that one). This was the turning point and Chris took the game 10-8. Ali was running out of steam fast, the weekend’s Pastis was taking its effect, the fifth went to Chris 9-4 and the match 3-2.
Man of the match…Got to be Ali.
