Report

Report:Park langley 2 welcomed Beckenham this week in a early relegation battle. With both teams in desperate need of a win, it was welcoming news from M.L that Beckenham were going to be weak tonight. So a full strength Beckenham turned up with just as many supporters to cheer them on.
The atmosphere was set and the matches began.
First up Junior Jon v Simon
This was the first time i had played Simon and was caught out early on by his quick pace and tight drops. Simon seemed to rattle of point after point with back hand kills and good gets at the front with no answer from Junior. 1-0 simon and the Beckenham support was in full voice.
The answer to this from Jon was tight lengths to the back with no mistakes. The next three all went the same way with Simon being the one to make the mistakes. A good match overall with a great crowd behind.

Superman v Guy on Court 4
Dave has played for us for about 2 years now and this was by far his best performance. His 7 day a week training is starting to show.
Dave set the pace early on with great gets and wining shots.Guy was being pushed to all corners of the court and seemed happy to soak the early pressure. Dave never let up in the 1st and could not have tried any harder. Guy stayed with Dave all the way but Dave always looked like he would sneak it and he did 9-8.
The next went the same watched by now a full balcony.Dave attacked more and more leaving Guy looking a little shell shocked. 9-5 Dave
In the 3rd Dave once again set the pace going 4-0 up. Dave starting to look tired and Guy sencing this started to rally a little longer. Dave then tinned the next 7 out of 9 points in quick order. Oh dear we thought Guy was now the favourite. 9-4 guy
Into the fourth and Dave started as if it was the 1st again. Great rallies gets and winning shots from both players. Dave was now being worked by Guy who was in no mood for letting Dave back in. Dave had other ideas & found the energy from somewhere going into a early lead with Guy always behind him on points.9-7 Dave.
The match was played in a great spirit and well marked by Matt.I don't remember seeing Guy make any more than 2 mistakes and made Dave earn every single point.

Next up D.H v Lee
Didn't see any of this as i was round at court 4. Ted seemed happy to be on court 1 this week so no racket smashing, moaning or tears this week. Shame really as it does make good entertainment.
Told that ted rattled the shots of in usual fashion and was much to strong for Lee. 3-0

Sly v Paul.
What are we going to do with Sly? Can go on court with Boatwright and Rob wood over the last 2 weeks and stuff them both 3-0. Come to Tuesdays and it's a differant story.
Both players seemed quite evenly matched in this one with the early rallies being long and hard.
Paul always seemed to have the upper hand though with a little drop or little boast. Sly kept in it and to be honest thought he deserved a game. However Paul seemed the one that would grind out out a result and did.

Matt v Matt.
The earlier support from the Beckenham supporters had been well silenced by now and like a typical England match had started to disapear before the end. Matt B as the result showed was always to strong for former Langley player Matt G. This was Matts first proper win against another no 3. Im sure it won't be his last.
Well done Beckenham for bringing down the support.
Always enjoy playing with a good crowd watching.
17 Points in Slys pocket keeps Langley in touch with the other strugglers and keeps Beckenham at the bottom with still no win this season.
I also now realise why M.L is also known as numbnuts.
