Report

Report:So, the Priory Committee has positively endorsed the PL team selection policy.
The laughter seems to have (temporarily) subsided on the forum, and the democratic process by which these things are decided has ensured - yet again - that yours truly has been outvoted in his attempts to provide some sort of lineup that is representative of the strength of the club. Hey ho.

The first match encounter for (supposed whipping boys) PL with new boys Beckenham proved that the gap from the Championship to Premier exists in more than just footie.

First up Ruffle v Rich.
Having arrived part way through this one, I made the mistake of thinking Adam was leading when in actual fact he was very much on the back foot, going 2-0 down largely as a result of Cath's tight boasting, which provided a lot of winners. He did eventually get it together though, and clawed back the next three games to record a 3-2 win.

Next door, Joyce v Davies.
Andy put in his usual workmanlike performance to comfortably win this one. He was ably assisted by Simon who had a bit of an off day, with far too many shots finding the tin. Andy kept his head down and made his opponent work for every point. 3-0 to Andy.

Next up, Gill v London snr.
The author ran off to an early lead in this one (maybe Matt was too busy working on his tan by staying in the back corners under the Beckenham sun lamp heating system), only to be pegged back and go 8-9 down before easing through to take the 1st.
After another tight game in the 2nd, the amount of work Matt had been forced into began to tell, and the 3rd was over in short order to give the author a 3-0 win.

Next door, Olby v Robbins.
What I saw of this match looked hard fought. Some good rallies as you'd expect from a couple of quality players. JEJ always had enough in hand to eke out the final point of the game however, with Guy looking a bit short of matches (bit of a change from a few years ago). Anyway, this one went 3-0 to JEJ, who despite a few niggles, seems to be responding to doing a little bit of training again.

Last on, Eneas v Pratt.
A welcome comeback for WW. Borrowed racket (well you wouldn't find it if you'd been off as long as he has would you)? Anyway WW narrowly lost the 1st after leading 8-6 and snuck the 2nd, but after that the long squash free gap started to take its toll, and Paul kept putting the ball in awkward to get places (particularly off the boast), and ran out the winner 3-1. He may have done even better had it not been for the over zealous approach of the drinks waiter (Oliver Pollard) who seemed to pinch his partly empty glass of water between every game.

A good start then for PL, and points on the board to help ward off the apparently impending relegation battle.
