Report: | First things first, sorry for the delay in getting the result on the site. We don’t like to put the result on without a match report, so when our standard reporter was unusually otherwise engaged, it slowed it all down.
The build up to match was incredible, you’d think the season depended on it. Biggin Hill captain Mark Lennox had no less that four separate members of the Park Langley team all trying to coax out Hill’s starting line up. Something that couldn’t be done [obviously] as we were waiting for late fitness tests from Alex Mayle (bad back) and Ray Bushell (wrist).
On with the match.
Toby v Ted
I think the felling was that Toby would bowl up with long hair, larey shorts and hit 27 nicks. Well all that was in fact the case apart from the last one that is. The first game was tight with Ted playing some really mature squash and not getting riled by Toby’s ample court presence. First game to Ted and Toby looking like he’d enjoyed one too many rums and not enough fitness training – like you would in the Caribbean!! The second and third games followed in quick succession with Ted looking a little uncertain about the fact he’s just turned over last season’s highest performing No.12 in the league. Good result for Ted.
Issa v Dave
Didn’t see much of this one but as I understand it, there wasn’t much to see apart from an awesome display from the new Biggin Hill hitman. As the game progressed, the crowds were gathering, no swarming, at the thought of the current Priory singles champion being taken out 27-0. Unfortuntely [for Hill] it wasn’t to be.
Mark v Matt
People weren’t sure what to make of this one although a couple of the Park Langley lads were muttering the word ‘choppage’? Now we were assuming it wasn’t a culinary expression which only meant he’d be ‘chopped up’ for but a few point. Not entirely so although Lennox proved too strong for the Division 3 lord and master.
John v Andy
Not pretty from John but he wasn’t helped by some good accuracy from the sly fox himself. People were wondering before the game if Sly would gain PL2 a point all season let alone 1 tonight from the Mighty Hill. He duly did and eventually went down 3-1.
John V Ray
The ‘Bag Carrier’ did a little more than just carry bags for this one. Volleying sweetly, perfect backhand length and tight drops defeated a perhaps already defeated Jonny Miles. This one was closed out 3-0 in pretty quick time.
Biggin Hill Reserves (Gordon v Dean)
Yes it was great to see the rotated Dean Newberry and Gordon McManus showing their support for the team and then going on for a battle themselves. Gordon tonked Dean 3-0.
So that’s it, we’re off the mark with a 4-1 win over the much improved PL2 team, we’d tip them to beat PL1 so it does beg the question...
