Report: | Some way towards the rightful order of things at last for PL1's visit to T.Wells, with TJ drafted in for reinforcements. A good match all round with TW at full strength.
First on: Head v London snr.
A keenly fought match (as always) between the two protagonists. The match swung this way with Joly capitalising on anything half-court or loose, particularly in the 1st game. The author finally managed to exert the necessary levels of discipline to play a tighter line and length in the last two to sneak it 3-2.
Next door: Richards v Robbins.
Bit of a photocopy of the first half encounter between these two. JEJ having winged his way down (thankfully not via the M26 - though it was a close shave) straight after a 6:30pm coaching session, was still in coaching mode for the first two games which Tim reeled off sharpish. Thankfully, JEJ managed to battle his way back after this and by the time the 5th game arrived was placing the ball sweetly to all four corners to run out a 3-2 winner.
Next on: Tapsfield v Jeal.
Reinforcements to the rescue. Didn't see a lot of this one, but then there wasn't a lot of this one to see. Ted was in uncompromising form (having had the lecture beforehand), and James' summary of events was that he'd been there to make Ted look good. Fair summary I think. 3-0 to Ted.
Next door: Ward v Pratt.
WW had sneaked this encounter in the first half, and this was to prove another tight and hard fought game. Both players contributed to an entertaining match, this time with Andy's consistency allowing him to come out narrowly on top in a close finish to the 5th. WW had hauled himself back from the brink to get to 7-7, but three or four attempted drops from mid court clipped the tin giving Andy a 3-2 win.
Last on (as ever): Johnson v Grey.
Steve looked to be in no mood to mess around in this one. Simon battled manfully to try and extract something from the match but anything remotely short was dispatched with aplomb, and the match was completed in pretty short order by 3-0.
A close (and late) finish to a good match. TW seemed a bit miffed at the (perfectly legit) PL line-up, and seemed keen to extract assurances from the author as to the possible PL2 line-up in a couple of weeks. As I said to them, all care taken, no guarantees given. I think I can see another Cascades situation brewing up here if we're not careful. Can't say I'd relish that (or the subsequent bar bill revenge tactics that they employed though). Stay tuned for more labyrinthine plotting from the Fox no doubt. |
