Report

Report:BCC Continue Climbing

BCC continued their resurgent 2008 form, with a 6th win in 7games in all competitions, this time against relegation rivals Park Langley 1.

In recent weeks, Park Langley have bolstered their squad with Ted Jeal and Dave Harris from the 2nd team, BCC were expecting more of the same for the crunch league match. However internal politics meant that Clive was left with his usual squad.

For BCC, they welcomed back Sam Stabler from injury to field a full strength team.
Each member though was suffering in one form of the other. Sam had his 30th at the weekend, (yeah had me aswell, I thought he was much older) and along with Colin stayed out until 7am on the Sunday morning. Both were complaining before the match of a 2day hangover. El Capitano was working all the hour’s god sends, so had his usual excuse of being brain dead from work. James had just come back from Gay Paris with his missus, and Lewy, well he didn’t have an excuse.

Jimmy Robbins Vs King Lewy

Lewy was never going to beat Jimmy, but the first two games were a bit of an embarrassment for Lewy, it took forever for him to get in his stride, and he had no answer to Jimmy’s’ accuracy and power. He was 2-0 down in no time at all. The third saw a mini revival from Lewy as he managed to take the game to Jimmy. Jimmy had enough though and won 9-7.

Pratt Vs James M

Having just returned from Paris where he took his missus for her 21st (don’t know where he gets his romantic streak from?) he looked tired before this encounter.
However James has a strong mental attitude, and despite his obvious weight problem and tired legs, he started the match well, forcing Pratt into mistakes and making him get cross with himself. Regularly Pratt would hurl his racquet from one end of the court to the other as James frustrated him. Pratt hasn’t beaten James for a while and this match never looked in doubt as James ran out an easy 3-0 winner. Pratt managed to smash two racquets in defeat, and littered the back of the court with racquet shrapnel. I bet James wished he’d stayed in Paris.

Andy vs El Capitano
Too tired from work to write anything about this one – although well played to Andy who took no pity on El Capitano. P.S Jimmy Robins’ marking was worse than my squash.

Clive vs Sam

Hardcore clubber Sam recorded an impressive 3-0 win against Clive. Didn’t see any of this one though – although I did hear most of it, as Clive sounded like he was getting increasingly frustrated with himself and the marker.
Sam’s demotion to #2 seems to have done the trick as he has only lost 1 game in 2008 – (another inspired team selection choice by El Capitano).

Simon Vs Silent Scot

You can always rely on your dad to give you extra work. Having competed in a squash tournament in Scotland at the weekend, he bumped into Colins’ parents. They didn’t realise that Colin was living in South London, let alone playing squash. ‘You’ll have to read my Son’s match reports to see how Colins’ getting on’ said Dad. So here I am writing one just for you Colin.
I was in the shower so missed the match – didn’t speak much to Colin as he was suffering from his heavy weekend session and looked like he needed some space, and then he shot straight off after his win.

This win propelled BCC up the table and looks to have guaranteed them Div 1 status for another season.

Must dash – off to a meeting.
