Report

Report: Forget Bromley LTC & Sparks. This Bexley team will cruise Div. 2. Now that Bexley have decided to break with tradition and have 2 teams in Div. 1, noone will stop them.

The only surprise was the absence of 1st team skipper, Mr ‘Slack’ Badger. Perhaps he had his hands full; or maybe he didn’t want to embarrass the hosts more than was necessary.

Most importantly, everyone in the Knole team got a good game.

Jerry at 2 was delighted to get a game off 1st team No. 3 Steve Falla, who had come along just to see his old mate ‘PJ’ ‘The Hipster’ Rutherford. Steve looked a bit rusty from his lay-off, but was too wily for the young Jerry. ‘PJ’ was very smart in his other jacket and winkle-pickers. We wish him well with his brain (sorry, hip) transplant in December.

Tom, demoted to 3, having had a difficult Summer at the higher positions, took too long to find his court legs and the younger Breen was altogether too sharp. Tom managed to double his time on court by persuading gentleman Scott to give him an outrageous let on match point down. This unselfish act of stupid generosity probably prevented a bloodbath. Only problem – Tom will probably do it again!

Mark found the older Breen more of a handful than he should have done; so much so that he lost all three games! Surely you could have won one of them, Mark?

Chris S had a delightful game at 1 against self-admitted lobber Scott. Only getting out of breath after the first rally, Chris showed some pretty touches in the first three games and probably should have won the second. Gradually, though, Scott remembered to lob and by the end of the fifth was looking the fresher for it.

Chris S-B managed to worry Dave for a couple of games, with his unorthodox rush and bash style. Cool hand Dave never looked in serious trouble, though. And he saved himself the embarrassment of losing in the lowly 4th string slot that he now finds himself reduced to.

I can’t see this Bexley team losing this Winter, even if they resist the temptation of draining their 1st team squad or bring in more of the Breen clan. Their biggest risk may be if they give skipper Peter back his slot;-). A nice bunch of lads, too. We wish them well.
