Report: | The new Men of Dulwich put in a solid performance to take the rubber 3-2 from a very pleasant Bromley LTC team who put up a good fight in the season opener.
The new signing at 1 for Dulwich, Mr A Claudet, was simply too strong for the BLTC no 1. Vice versa in respect to BLTC 2 who swept Mr M Kenadll aside with a rapier forehand winner on too many occasions.
Mr M Pailing won a very aesthetically pleasing match and looked very lithe. Mr S Shapiro was simply too strong for Mr Easton of BLTC and won 3-0.
Match of the night goes to the 3rd string between Mr J Birkbeck (Bikbeck-Bond - BB - to his mates) and Mr K Palmer. The evening started well for BB as he actually arrived on time. Normally its at least 8.30 pm before he puts in an appearance. He was eclipsed this week by Mr Shapiro who filled the 'midnight slot' with ease. Perhaps he's been having training off of BB. Anyway with the food (Corsican pork and beef ragu with Italian dumplings {dum-plinos is the italian for dumplings if you are interested) bubbling away all the other players were hoping for a short match as tummies rumbled. Apart from not looking like each other at all and having no similarities whatsoever these two players could be twins when it comes to sqaush. Both played a very clean width and length with few mistakes. The match quickly developed into a war of attrition (if it is possible for attrition to develop quickly) with both players unyeilding with very few mistakes being made during long and hard rallies. The match was officaited by Mr M Pailing who was most fair and proportionate in his decisions.
Eventually something had to give and after 5 hours of continous play Mr Palmer came out victorious much to the disappointment of BB. Well played both players.
The food was described by Mr Kendall as 'like school dinners.' Fortunatley for le Chef Mr Kendall went to a school sponsored by a Mr Ramsey-White so he's used to good food. We all await Mr Kendall's nosh with anticipation when it is his turn (PS I slaved over a hot cooker for 3 hours to put that on tha table ..........and thats all the thanks I get........) I knew that phrase would come in handy one day!!!.
Good match, Well done all. |
