Report

Report: For the third time in the last four home matches, Knole had to wait for their opponents until well after the scheduled start time of 7.30. Just think of it – 60 points for the taking and Division 2 status ensured for another year. Dream on!

When play did get underway, Paul and Ross flattened and touretted John and Chris 3-0 and 3-0 respectively. John was hiding his bad back well until Paul interrupted a long rally with a shout of ‘good shot’ – then proceeded to win the rally. Indignity piled on insult! Marker Sayer lost his grip at that point – issuing a conduct warning to John for not getting out of the way enough. I ask you!

Mark battled acute intestinal discomfort and a dogged John Molloy to pull one back for Knole in a ding-dong 5-setter. And Chris Sayer continued his fine run following his Karting accident to notch up another scalp on his revenge trail. Dave (Brain) seems to have swapped a few pounds with brother Matt (Log) recently and this match was not as tough as past encounters for Chris.

Unfortunately, the opposite effect was felt by Jerry against the unfancied bulk of brother Matt in the decider. Instead of his usual one game and bust stamina trick, Matt showed what he can do when fit, with some devastating short kills particularly on the backhand.

So, another 2-3 loss for Knole. They will need to win at least 5 of 9 in the second half to move out of relegation – a tough ask. Brands Hatch, on the other hand should coast over the finish line without needing to change to all-weather grips.
