Report

Report:Biggin Hill were 22 points clear after Bexley's dismal display at Dulwich so to even be in with a chance of winning the league Bexley needed a good win whilst a simple win for Biggin Hill would put the league out of reach.....but Biggin Hill were missing Captain Invincible!

First up, Rob vs Stu
After an embarrassing loss last week in the cup to his dad, Peter. Rob needed to be on form. The first game was not the best example of squash with both players struggling to find a line and length (Rob is not built for line and length I hear you say!). Rob eventually winning the first 9-8 after Stuart called his shot down (very impressed with that). After a talking to between games, Rob was persuaded to leave negative road in slow town and move on to positive street. This seemed to work with Rob hitting the ball cleaner and stepping in to take the ball early, the next two games coming quite easily with Rob full of confidence by the end. An excellent performance.

On the other court Joss "don't call me Tosh" Stafford vs Ray "Debt Collector!" Bushell
Joss cruised the first as Ray struggled to warm up on Bexleys icy courts. From then on it got very tense!! Usually long rallies ending in a let!! Some great drops and boasts from Tosh, I mean Joss, made the difference as he took the next 2 games to make it 3-0...and more importantly 6-0 to Bexley.

At 1, Mark vs Marc, both players were tired from their previous nights performances in the surrey cup, both winning 3-2. After a thrashing in the last match Mark came out with all guns firing and took the first with Marc looking stiff from the night before, after warming up the old bones Marc then dug in, the next three games were close and hard with Marc edging it. Both players will be stiff today!

SlackBadger vs John. A slightly nervy (if a little petulant!) first game from Matt before he relaxed more in the following games. The game was more about the mistakes than the shots to be honest. John peppering the tin on the forehand side and Matt not even reaching the tin on the backhand!!! Fitness was eventually the difference as Matt won 3-1.

Finally Steve vs Gordon. A win here would really polish things off for Bexley but Gordon had been edging the contests recently. Falla went off like a freight train winning the first 2 until Gordon pulled back 9-2 in 3rd. It was very tight in the 4th until Steves forehand drive connected with Gordons racket. Gordon was so suprised that he hit himself in the hand with his own racket! Breaking his concentration he then dropped his racket in the next rally. Steve never looked back to win 9-4.

so 18-5 the points!!!

BH's absent captain was unavailable for comment out in Austria. Rumour has it he was too busy furiously polishing his snowboard...lets face it Mark, still a chance that silverware will be in short supply this season
