Report: | Having lost its usual no.1 to the 1st team, Bromley was reconciled to a struggle with strong Waterfront who, it transpired, had the same handicap. Paul Webb came out first with purpose and handled everything Isi threw at him, winning comfortably. Mark, recovering from a back injury, began tentatively against Manjit but fought back, taking the 3rd game. Manjit, playing with his usual efficiency, stepped up a gear in the 4th to win by a margin. While Kevin was fighting both Simon and his fitness after illness, losing in 3, Peter and Paul were battling it out in their closest match for quite a while. Effectively a decider, the match came to a sudden end when Peter's concentration lapsed, handing Paul a sequence of forehands which he executed as neat straight drops. Tim was in good form against Mark whose game was a little wayward at times, compensated by power shots that Tim nevertheless soon learnt to play off, bringing the overall result to 3-2. Then it was away for a great meal. |
