Report: | Paul gave Bromley a cracking start for the first of the return matches. Although I missed his match, afterwards his main concern was that he might have used up all his best shots but I'm sure Terry will lend him a few wrong-footers for the next match. Peter thought he was on for a 3-game win too as Tim seemed to struggle to find depth, but after some sound advice between games ("the old bugger's not as fast as he was so drop him..." etc) picked up momentum. However, this broke up a little in the 5th, letting Peter back into the match. Mark and Justyn had a cracker of a match, using the whole court and both moving well. Shot for shot there seemed little in it but Mark, with fewer errors as the game progressed, won through. Meanwhile Rich seemed to be heading for a 3-0 win, with the tighter shots that generally controlled the match. Then, with Rich beginning to tire, Tim pushed harder finding length, and victory. Finally, Kevin took on Mehmet in a match in which fortunes swung wildly. Kevin, despite moments of sheer brilliance, could not resist several inexplicable errors and wild serves that Mehmet exploited using greater consistency and accuracy.
A great start to the second half, although the score-line and points total are perhaps flattering for Bromley who might easily have lost 2-3. And, folks, when Old Elthamians have eventually completed the renovations at Foxgrove, the quality of the facilities will then match that of their hospitality. |
