Report: | A well earned 3-2 victory for the Dulwich Thirds last night, consolidating their position at the top the division. Biggin Hill put up a good fight but ultimately couldn't cope with our awesome squash.
First on was Ravi Dogra, who convincingly took the first game, but then seemed to be feeling the pace as his younger opponent sprinted and smacked his way to a 2-1 lead. But some dexterous drop shots from the back of the court saved match points in the 4th before Ravi's experience saw him home 9-7 in the 5th.
Rhys Davis never looked like losing his match, although there were plenty of good rallies and some high quality squash. As his deflated opponent commented afterwards - "He played one dropshot - and then another!" There's no higher praise than that.
Jason Wilkins had a marathon battle against a determined opponent with some very long rallies and excellent retrieving from both players. Despite a valiant effort Jason lost 9-5 in the 5th.
Olly Ruff had expectations of a tough game against his younger, hard hitting adversary - in the previous encounter Olly narrowly snatched it 3-2. This time around proved to be an easier victory; wearing the newly printed Dulcwich Team Squash shirt (thanks JP) Olly's motivation levels were through the roof and his opponent was summarily dismissed.
Last on was Ed Knox, facing a player who although portly had deadly touch and control. Ed cruised to a 9-1 defeat in the first before stepping up a gear and making a real battle of it, with some great squash produced by both players. Ed looked to have the edge in the 5th, but his opponent found another level in the nick of time and snatched victory, taking the last game 9-5.
An excellent result overall, the Dulwich Thirds juggernaut rolls onwards and upwards |
