Report: | First off was Bob vs. yours truly who truly thought he was going to storm to victory in 3. Bob had other ideas and focussed on deeper length and better line, alternating with drop shots that the old man was unable to anticipate and even less able to reach.
Then Paul showed how it should be done with an impressive display of shots against Simon who, despite a late surge, was unable to make a come-back.
Tubby Tel used all his deception against an increasingly frustrated Garth who was far from being off form and took the 3rd and 4th games with confidence. Tel played even cheekier shots in the 5th leaving Garth quite rattled (like most of Tel's opponents) and, puzzlingly, inviting people to make love to him.
Ray meanwhile was coping well with Rich the Irrepressible until, realising he might win, let some easy points drain away. However, the 5th was a cliffhanger and Rich was lucky to snatch it.
Making his last appearance before moving away from the SouthEast (sensible fellow), Ash matched Dave point for point and drive for drive, played in great spirit. The outcome was down to magnificent retrieval and fitness that I can now only dream of, Ash pipping Dave when it really mattered.
The distribution of points seems hardly to reflect the closeness of most of the matches but I fear Sundridge Park may win them back on the return. |
