Report: | Tim & Pat: Tim seemed elsewhere, lacking length, pace, ideas... Pat played a direct harder-hitting game and consistent winning forehand drops.
Paul & Manjit: more cat and mouse, neither wishing to concede a point, Manjit the more agile and Paul the more powerful, pushing Manjit into the corners just enough to pull off the victory.
Talking of victory, this was Ray's over Phil until Ray inexplicably switched to a softer game in the 3rd and suffered a retrieving role from then on.
Mark found Paul a handful for 4 games, Paul with tighter shots and good length. Mark, aided possibly by the greater stamina, showed better consistency in the 5th and made the games all square.
Brian looked as if he were going to romp home after the 1st game but Simon, ever resourceful, moved him around and broke up his rhythm. Stepping up a gear, Brian moved ahead via pace, and some accurate boasts that almost deceived the markers eye. |
