Report

Report:PL struggled through another defeat, this time at the hands of Bexley. Very impressive perfomance from JEJ as he powered through against Duane. A thoroughly entertaining game to mark and watch. Jimbo looks to be getting back to the halcyon days, with several taxis early on. Duane actually played very well, and probably felt pretty hard done by not to sneak the 3rd after getting into a big lead.

London snr v Steeden was the usual marathon affair (Mark's second of the night have traipsed back from the hallowed halls of the RAC club in Epsom). This was marred (well I thought it was), by the PL club's complete inability to turn the lights back on (at all) after they'd chopped off at 10.30pm with the match poised at 4-2 in the 4th to CL (and 1-2 down). The joys of a computerised lighting system. After last week's debacle at B.Hill, I'm starting to think someone up there has got it in for me. Anyway, Mark adapted better to the change of court to run out a narrow winner in a hard fought 4th.

Mike Currie didn't get too mauch change out of Paul at no.5. Paul cruised effortlessly through the first two games with Mike hardly troubling the scorer (yes you guessed it - me again). A few points were pouched in the 3rd, but all to no avail. The backwater of court 4 was actually the coolest in the club on the night, but Mike's ring rust combined with Paul's authoritative brand of squash meant slim pickings for the PL man.

Didn't see the other two matches, but with yet more team selection woes, the remaining two found themselves punching above their weight somewhat. Darren looks to have given it a real go against Matt, getting to 8-6 up in the first, but he tells me his fitness ran out at that point. Not a good sign against someone like Matt, particularly at that stage of the match. By the time the 3rd arrived, Matt was obviously in full stride, and ran out a comfortable winner.

Paul dug us out of a hole yet again in this one. Probably didn't expect to be playing at no.4, and was rewarded with a match against Steph. In the event it looks (judging from the score) to have been a match too far. Steph looks to have wrapped it all up pretty efficiently, and was certainly back up in the gallery on the backwater court in short order to watch JEJ v Duane.

So, thanks to WW's late (and unreported) football injury, PL were forced to use up more of their borrowing allowance from the other teams for the third successive week (weakening them in the process - sorry guys). Same again next week I'm afraid. Hopefully, the cavalry will arrive in a couple of weeks to deliver salvation, but chickens aren't being counted yet.
