Report: | The mighty Mote goes down with a murmur.
Mark (revenge) Lennox was looking forward to this match having only just lost 3-2 in the first half encounter to Sean Wardman. But alas Sean was not to be seen all night so on went Mark (Revenge) Lennox against Phil (Why aren’t you dropped) Crane. Didn’t see any of this as I was on court at the same time but as I can off at the end of my second game Mark had duly dispatched of Phil in a fairly comfortable 3-0.
Meanwhile Dean () Newberry was having a similar match against Paul (This is just S**t) Adam. Dean won the first quickly but then as in the first half encounter Paul changed his game and started dropping a lot more. This made the second quite close but Dean somehow remembered this tactic from the first half encounter where Paul won a game from it. Dean took the second 9-7 then won the third fairly comfortably. 2-0 to the Hill.
Next on was Gordon (The Old Goat) McManus against Adrian (Polite & Tall) Humphries. Gordon won the first “somehow” (his words not mine). Then he took the second with some usual rolling boasts and pinpoint drops. The third was a slightly tighter affair with Adrian retrieving a bit better and moving Gordon around a lot better. Gordon again upped the pace and won the third.
On the other court Rory (SHEEP HEAD) Pennell was taking on Peter (All I do is run) Knowles. This turned out to be the match of the night. Rory too the first two with some controlled squash and Peter as per usual retrieving as much as he can. In the Third at 2-2 Peter played 3 cracking winners in a row, this took the score to 5-2 and despite clawing back to 5-7 the 7-8 Rory just never quite recovered. In the forth Rory’s controlled returned and Peter lost all of his 3 winners and Rory took the match 3-1. Rory then kindly gave Peter a few tips on winner and deception after the match, Peter I’d really ask someone else about things like that!
On the other Court Farzan (FarZOOM) Rasheed was also getting a lesson on winners from Johnny (Roll Out) Powell. The First game saw plenty of chances for Johnny to gain a few points but unfortunately he failed to convert them. The second game was totally dominated by Farzan. In the third Johnny ran a bit less and decided to give Farzan a lesson on how to hit winners, queue two completely flat roll out cross court volley nicks, a few nicks in other places and a trio of points gained. But ultimately Farzan was just a bit too strong for this tactic and too the match 3-0.
Off to the bar and beer, food, the lovely Kim and some very polite chat about each other. Mote were deciding if they wanted to play in the Priory in winter, it would be good to have you guy’s but a couple a players to strengthen up would be in order I think, oh and that Crane bloke really needs to be dropped ;).
Last match of the first phase nest week and it’s off to Bromley to play Sundridge Park.
