Report: | 1st Team end 1st half on High!
Last games of the 1st half and a visit from Sundridge Park for a top versus bottom of the table clash.
1st On court was Rory (Band Member) Pennell vs Justin (Leather Pants) Jardine. I didn’t see a shot of this match as Mr Lennox was brown nosing the PC for most of the match so I was on full time marking duty. A fairly comfortable win for Rory by all accounts but if any of the other matches are a clue a valiant effort from Justin who would never give anything up!
1st on the other court was Mr Lennox vs Billy (Run and Volly Nick) McManus. Being on marking duty I managed to see this entire match. It was looking to be a very close match until about 6 all in the first. At this point Ben played a wide backhand crosscourt Mr Lennox went scampering to collect; only he neglected to notice Bill in the way. A trip, dive and falling boast latter and the ball was back in play. Bill rather perplexed at this monumental effort just stood there. Mark then asked for a let (not knowing he had won the point), let given and we are all happy again. From this point Mr Lennox took the game 8-6 and then proceeded to win the next two to about the same score.
Next on was Farzan Rasheed vs Kevin Tullett. To be fair Kevin was a bit out of his league here, but with lots of effort and some 100mph squash a few points were gained but a 3-0 win to Farzan.
Next on the other court was Gordon (That’s on not en) McManus vs Jermaine (Dreadlock Holiday) Xaba. Again I was either marking or playing as this match was on but co reporter Rory tells me that Mr McManus is in a bit of a lull at the moment. Gordon relies on tight squash and moving his opponent about; at the moment it just isn’t tight. So a 3-0 to Jermaine means that Sundridge Park have won a tie in every match except to those horrible people from cascades, only joking ;).
Last on was Dean (Surfer Shorts) Newberry vs Oliver (Actual Surfer) Porritt. Again with both players retrieving everything but not giving up this was a fairly close match. At 5 all in the second Oliver sent me short with a straight drop from the back. I went to go forward only to find my foot goes flying out of my shoe and collapse in a heap on the floor. Much searching for another shoe and Farzan lends me one of his magical ones. So with one black shoe and one white one I go back on court to win the second 9-5. Then some more effort and a 9-1 win in the 3rd means a 3-0 win.
So a 4-1 win for the Hillbillies and it’s off to the bar for some more of lovely Kim’s lovely food, a few beers and for once a fairly early night.
