Report: | Bromley CC Scrap Through Against Basement Boys.
Struggling Cascades without a win all season put up a brave fight against Bromley CC, but in the end Bromley got back to winning ways with a hard fought 3 - 2 victory.
With an abundance of top class players Bromley have the luxury of operating a rotation policy. In came Andy Brackstone (designated driver) for Alistair McMeckan, but otherwise it was an unchanged side winless in their last two outings.
Cascades are struggling this season, they've lost two key players due to injury, and Mo doesn't seem interested in squash at the moment. This was emphasised when he dropped a further bombshell on Tonys' already depleted squad by informing him that he will be taking a rest from squash for 3 months. However he was determined to go out with a bang. Who better to provide
him with his first win of the season than Ian McMeckan.
Mo Vs Ian (Number 2)
Ian began the first game in lighting form, moving Mo around and using his brain to play some tactical squash. Mo seemed slightly uninterested and Ian took it 9 - 3. Maybe Mo had underestimated Ians' squash, nevertheless he stepped up his game in the second with a series of trademark deadnicks and took it comfortably 9 - 1. Ians' confidence began to drain, remembering all those times that Solly would get Mo to whip his arse. Mo raced into an early 6 - 0 lead, and it was Ian who seem uninterested. A series of unforced errors though, allowed Ian to get back into the game, pulling the scoreline back to 7 - 6. However Mo held on to win it 9 - 6. The fourth game started badly with Mo winning the first 7 points to go 7 - 0. Ian tried to stay alive for as long as possible, but an uninterested Mo was still too good for Ian, taking the fourth 9 - 4. Ians' team-mates said that although he had played okay, he hit the ball back to Mo too much. Personally it was because it was Mo's' last game and Ian obviously didn't want Mo to go out on a losing note, especially after all his dad had done for Ian's squash.
S Franks (Steve?) Vs Andy (Number 5)
Unfortunately the editor didn't get to see this match, which was a shame according to Andy. Andy is battling for his first team place, and his performance against Steve, did an awful lot to enhance his position in the squad. By all accounts he produced a faultless display, despite a nasty
blister on his right hand. He comfortably beat Steve for only 6 points, but as Andy said his opponent
was "PANTS".
Tony Vs Michel (Number 3)
Tony began the first game with some excellent squash. The game was full of long rallies, but it was Tony who kept out the unforced errors, taking the first 9 -1. Michel turned it around in the second and looked like he had got to grips with Tonys' awkward game taking it 9 - 2. The third game was the turning point. After a tightly fought game, Tony managed to prevail at the end, winning it 9 - 6. A deflated Michel then folded in the fourth as Tony put in a captains performance, winning 9 - 1 and 3 - 1. Michel was clearly disappointed with his performance, He felt he didn't do himself justice and produced too many unforced errors. I'm sure he'll be back to winning ways next week against Old Dunstonians in the cup, that's if he's recovered from a Stag weekend in Oxford
Big Burping Gay Bob Vs 'The Student' (Number 4)
The match was delicately poised. Cascades were 2 - 1 up, and 'The Student' hadn't won a game all season.
Last week we thought Steve Pratt had the hardest shot in the league, Big Burping Gay Bob soon showed that it was he with the hardest shot. At 6.5 and about 16stone, Big Burping Gay Bob looks like he should be in WWE. His unorthodox squash baffled 'The Student' in the early exchanges.
The first game was about who could hit the hardest. Big Burping Gay Bob won that contest and the game 9 - 7. To counter Big Burping Gay Bob, 'The Student' slowed it down in the second, keeping is lengths tight, and not allowing Big Burping Gay Bob to hit it at 200mph. 'The Student' looked like he had it in the bag leading 8 - 4. But, the pressure of winning his first game looked like it was
getting to him, that coupled with heckling from Cascades resident 'Hoodie' (Stuart Lamprell), saw Big Burping Gay Bob get it back to 8 - 8. 'The Student' recomposed himself and won 10 - 8.
Big Burping Gay Bob was clearly shattered after that, he was constantly using stalling tactics, and burping his way around the court. 'The Students' superior fitness saw him run away with the next two dropping only 3 points in the process. A great win for 'The Student' despite a nasty foot injury that was spooling blood everywhere. Must have been those girls socks he was wearing.
You may ask why Bob his called Big Burping Gay Bob?
BIG - Just look at him
BURPING - Average of 7 burps per game
GAY - Throughout dinner, constant sexual innuendo's about being GAY, and took a shine to 'The Student',
BOB - That's his name
The game was tied at 2 - 2, were Cascades going to record their first victory of the season?
'Hoodie' Vs Lewis (Number 1)
Lewis has been struggling for form recently, but when the chips are down, you can always rely on him to get a result. He won the first game 9 - 2, and looked in complete control. The editor went off for a shower at this point, and seeing as how long it takes for him to do his hair, thought that
by the time he had come back the match would be over. Surprisingly 'Hoodie' won the game 9 - 7.
The next two games were extremely nail biting. Lewis would pull ahead, the 'Hoodie' would look down and out, and then find some resolve and claw his way back. Both players looked extremely tired, particularly 'Hoodie', who would do his trainers undone and then re lace them about 4 times every couple of points. At some points the rest in between points were longer than the actual rallies. In the end it was Lewis who won out 9 - 6 and 10 - 8, after one of the most tense games of the season.
Hopefully Cascades can get some of their players back from injury, otherwise they may have to pull out of the league. It would be a shame to lose them, especially if they show the same kind of fighting spirit week in week out.
As for Bromley CC, back to winning ways after a two game losing streak. Andys' form is improving, I just wish he would stop farting all the time. 'The Student' has finally won a game, just needs to get some proper socks. Michels' form is dipping, will improve once he has a decent racquet. Ian
has lost 3 games on the trot, but he still has an important part to play, writing these match reports. As for Lewis, stopped the rot, fortunately we have two 'easier' game coming up, so his xmas drinking exploits shouldn't hinder his performances too much.
