Report: | A welcome first win in the middle league for TW against an under strength PL team.
First up JH vs SL. Slow start from SL, but once into his stride he continued to adopt the tactics from 3 weeks ago, namely hitting a few errors on the points that didn’t matter and giving absolutely nothing away on the points that did. Slight deviation from this theme at the end of the 3rd meant JH managed to sneak a game. Apart from that business as usual. Well played, and one nil to PL.
PM vs AR – didn’t see the match but from what I heard there wasn’t much to see. PM playing his usual feisty brand of squash. AR lost interest.
AW vs DH – this looked like being the decider and so it proved. DH appears to have spent the summer positioning himself to win slimmer of the year in 2009. Only saw the 5th, which AW built up a quick 6 point advantage hitting some decent shots but also aided by DH’s error count. DH managed to pull a few points back before fitness took its toll and AW got across the finish line. Good win for AW. Good luck with the comeback DH.
HW vs SP – both coming back from injury. Herman has a broken toe. Steve has been out for 3 months or so with a leg injury (I think). Herman appeared to be the more focused and played his usual intelligent squash. Steve seemed to run out of puff as the match progressed. Herman 3-0.
CP vs JR – dead rubber played in good spirits. JR enhancing yet further his reputation for doing just enough, although he failed to take it to the customary 5 games. Colin played some decent squash and kept the crowd entertained with some winners both at the front and back, but one suspects James still had a few gears unused.
