Report

Report:Bexley set off on their longest journey to TW hoping to find along the way, Rob Lewis' mojo, Mark Steeden's confidence and a toilet for old man Falla who began complaining even before they exited the Bexley car park. Find them they did.with the exception of Falla's toilet stop.Steve's jaunty cross-legged run to the TW clubhouse fooled the opposition into thinking he was fired up for the contest.

First up Falla vrs Cliff,
His strained journey had obviously taken its toll, Steve lost the first as he struggled to find full speed. Fought back he did though as Cliff's "flu" set in. The rumours in the balcony were that Cliff had "bird flu" although he was calling it "man flu". 3-1 win to Falla as Cliff faded, then rushed home to bed.

Next Badger vrs Andy,
A closely fought hack fest!! Both players had spells of decent squash surrounded by spells of peppering the tin!! Matt won the first two 7 and 6 before Andy took an 8-3 lead in the 3rd. Scratching and wobbling his head, Matt tried to remember what he did in the first two. He pulled it back to 8-7 before Andy broke Matt's heart with a nick at the back to win the third 9-7. The fourth was also tense and Matt was only too happy to return the fluke shot on game ball to win (sorry Andy!!). 3-1 Badger

Mr Stafford vrs Mr Riley,
Unfortunately, not seen by me. By all accounts a very solid performance from the undefeated, undisputed champion of 5th strings!! Joss is pushing for the 4th spot. Can Rob fend him off!!!? 3-0 Joss

Rob vrs Street,
Rob went 2 games up very quickly, apparently with his "Mojo working overtime baby"!!! The shots were certainly there but was the fitness???....No!!! Street fought back with some great retrieving and tricky drops that stretched the tiring Lewis. At 2-2 it was looking dodgy. Rob's head was wobbling like the Churchill's dog and Street was looking full of running. But get annoyed Rob did not!! In fact one TW supporter leaned over and said to me, "the fat guy looks like he really enjoys his squash and would never get annoyed"!!! In the fifth Rob found his form again and produced fantastic shots to win 3-2. Later the TW supporter said to me again "the fat guy is an amazing squash player"..not sure whether the positive cancels out the negative there or not!!

Last up Mark vrs James,
James pipped the first 9-7 with Mark looking off the pace. James' drops were proving too good and Mark was teeing him up with some nice loose drives and cross courts! The second game Mark decided to play the ball tighter. A body serve and a near miss put more pressure on James as his drops got lower and lower..too low!! 1-1. The next two games went each way again to set up another tense 5th game. At 7-2 down, Mark's chances (and confidence) were looking pretty low but again he raised his game to creep back. 3 pressure-tinned drops from James helped out as Mark came back to 7-7 before taking the game 9-7. A great comeback and confidence booster for Old man Steeden!!

5-0 and 20-6 the points. Bexley leapfrog TW and set their sights higher up the league. Could this be the start of a comeback????
