Report: | PL1 welcomed the Dulwich superstars on Tuesday. Not that it made too much difference this week, but the holiday season had left PL with the usual slightly depleted look again. Dulwich on the other hand were clearly taking no title chances, fielding a very strong team.
First on - London snr v Genever.
Well, despite the big mismatch this was a pretty enjoyable match for the author. Peter, fresh from (apparently) lobbing Mr Olby to a standstill the previous night did just as much as he needed to and the author spent the match visiting all four corners of the court with monotonous regularity. 3-0 to Peter.
Meanwhile out in the sticks on court 4 - Boatwright v George.
The marine seemed from the scoreline (didn't see any of it due to playing duties) to have overcome the mishap of the previous evening, and having dispatched Matt in fairly short order was planning how he was going to rid himself of his huge collection of baked beans since he has next weeks cheffing duties. 3-0 to Tucker.
Next up on court 3 - Harris v Barry.
Dave stepped up a notch as Jason stepped down one. No big surprises in the result here. Didn't see anything after the knock-up, this time due to marking duties, but Jason reappeared mighty quickly in the court 4 gallery, so it looked to be a continuation of the rest of the evening so far. 3-0 to Jason.
Now the fun started. On court 4 - Burnett v Brownsden.
Fergus, having been called up again for 1st team duties continued where he left off last week. A morose and dejected looking Will soon found himself staring down the barrel of a second defeat in two nights, as an imperious selection of dinks and reverse angle winners mixed with good length drives from Fergus, saw the latter advancing to a 2-0 lead. Cue the comeback. Will stirred his stumps in the 3rd, winning it at a canter, but come the 4th, he descended back into his shell until 2-7 down. At this point he awoke once more to take the game with some good retrieving and power hitting. Onto the decider and this time Fergus eased out to 8-6 match ball in a tightly fought game. Refusing to lie down Will somehow managed to secure the game and take the match 3-2.
Back in civilisation Robbins v Garner.
Yet again, the author was marking the marathon, so saw none of it. JEJ looks to have given a pretty good account of himself, taking the second game off a normally pretty parsimonious Tim. Sadly this was the last PL point on the board for the evening, but represented three more than I thought we'd get looking at the teams beforehand.
It has to be said about the profs from Dulwich though. They were all packing the gallery for Will's match along with travelling supporter and erstwhile no.5 Paul Taylor. None of your grabbit and run for this lot. An enjoyable evening washed down to Jason's evident relief by the customary fare of ham, egg and chips. Haven't seen that one on the menu at Dulwich before, but who knows with Tucker's turn next week and all those beans to go ... |
