Report: | With no phone call from Ted to tell me he was grounded for 'personal reasons' on the day, Biggin Hill were able to field five players against Bexley. Unlike the first half of the season where Bexley inflicted our only defeat of the season to date.
First up was Higgins v Father Matt
The ‘better’ Matt wasn't quite at the races in this match. Whilst Iain was playing his usual game of tight shots with death touches at the front. Matt found his rhythm in the 2nd and started to move the big fella round the court forcing some loose balls from the thoroughbred’s racket. Matt produced some nice touches of his own to force the score to 6-6, but was unable to convert his chances allowing the 'Kronenbourg Monster' to pull his socks up and push through to take the win.
On the next court, Nicky Clarke v Steeden
Fair play to Mark for chasing everything down against Lee. He has been ill continuously and has lost a lot of body weight over the last couple of months; therefore the effort he displayed on court as that Hercules himself would have been proud of. If he had been at 100% Mark could would have had more joy than the scoreline you read above. Lee looks to be in good form at the moment and hit some very tasty shots last night.
Stacey v Ben
The number ones put on a good show for the crowd, all 5 of them! The match looked in the balance all the way through, with the court playing a substantial part in where you could hit the ball and whether you were going to fall over. Higgins was marking this one and the commentary that accompanied it eclipsed that of the psa live standard. A few too many mistakes by Ben enabled Stacey to get a 3-1 win, which Ben was not too happy with.
Super Sumner v Might Mac
With Gordon fresh from the nationals, where he nearly beat the eventual over 50's champion (some northerner). Biggin Hill had great expectations of a win from the ‘ever green’ McManus. But the shot play of the 'younger' Alan Thompson proved too much for Gordon, moving him from front corner to front corner. The deflated McManus was so upset that after the game his team mates had to confiscate his shoe laces in fear he was going to use them to take his own life! Shame on you Scot!
Captain Matt v Daddy Long Legs
Did you know that Matt beat Ben Ford at racketball the other day? Thought I would mention that as the match didn’t have a lot of talking points.
So to the bar, where we found Iain. He preceded to enlighten Ben about the inner secrets of the game called squash. Remarking about Ben's abilities and generally talking a lot of toilet which proved to be very entertaining. Apart from if you were Ben and had to sit next to him.
