Report

Report:PL entertained BCC last night, and sadly continued their impersonation of the Norwegian entry at the Eurovision Song Contest. The visitors arrived, no doubt unsurprised to see the normal diminished PL numbers slowly rolling in throughout the evening.

First on London snr v King Lewy
A long and enjoyable match (though probably not the best quality squash - Lewy certinly didn't think so), but sadly it ended in the normal way for the author. Honours shared in the 2nd and 3rd, an 8-3 lead in the 1st and a 7-4 lead in the 4th were squandered by the author to hand Lewy the match. Still, a point on the board - be thankful for small mercies.

Out in sticksville (court 4) - Thompson v Stabler.
Didn't see anything apart from the very last point of this match. Martin tells me his fitness is absolutely magnificent up to about 3-3 in the games, after which the wheels rather fall off. So it seems again. Sam not being the easiest person in the world to play(!) probably isn't the right person to have this problem against.

Next up Robbins v Rintoul.
This was undoubtedly the match of the night. Jimbo is still struggling with his dodgy ankle and really laboured to push forward to the front. To anyone who's seen Martin play this is a sure sign of a hard evening in prospect. And so it proved. Despite the injury JEJ really belied the moniker and put in a lot of effort. A really entertaining contest with Martin demonstrating his usual brand of controlled racket skills and anticipation. In the end, despite a 5-0 lead in the 5th to Jimbo, Martin eased his way back in and squeezed the game 9-7 (no thanks to missing an absolute sitter on his first match ball - about his only mistake of the evening).

Last on out on court 4 - Harris v ex-Student.
Dave had a bit of a score to settle here, having got roundly hammered the last time these two met. Didn't see any of it but it appears that sterling efforts were applied to the task. The first two were long drawn out affairs, with Dave just coming up short in the 2nd. A breather in the 3rd and not enough left in the tank for the 4th, but a good effort nonetheless.

Unsurprisingly no 5th PL player was forthcoming, so El Cap had the night off, turning up to express solidarity and register a win for the team.

So, for all that hard work, four points seems a pretty poor return. Still, as always with the BCC boys, the bar seemed to be the most entertaining part of the evening. El Cap seemed on fine form, being especially fulsome in his praise of his mates on The Hill as always. Sam seemed only too happy to back this up, and ex-Student was revealed to be an unwitting Badger-baiter ...
