Report: | Sadly the Tunbridge Wells' 11-man squad was only able to put forward 3 able warriors for the trip to the city to take on the Men of Dulwich. Perhaps it was the daunting drive past the Giant Arches or simply too many festive spirits being consumed else where. Either it was a big ask and the question got an emphatic answer.
First on for Dulwich was Tim Garner against the classy act that is Jolyon Head. Firing in his rasping trade mark drives, Head forged leads in games one & two but was unable to close them out on the lonely game ball in each. Garner was clearly worried about the fact he had to make a guest appearance in the kitchen, as his concentration ebbed & flowed. Finally focussed on how much time the pasta would need in the boiling water he eased home in 3 games.
Talking of 3, Paul Tayor had been on court 3 times last week and that spells disaster for his opponent. Andy Ward battled hard but Taylor rolled back the years, if not the pounds putting the ball away with pin point accuracy to take the match 3-0.
Colin Payne was probably less than pleased to see Daryl Selby stroll in to the club, but worked hard to score points against the run of play. Selby moved smoothly around the court, and cruised to a straight games win.
The food was probably more Goodyear tyre than Michelin star, but Taylor had two helpings, atleast, so captain Garner’s grub can’t have been that bad …
