Report

Report:Bexley travelled to the Hill with a full strength team and were pleasantly surprised to find the Hill without their usual number 1.
It was a special night as a new shot was invented, never seen before and probably never to be seen again.
First on.
Duane vs Lennox.
Good first game with a lot of crash bang wallop going on, Mark just nicking it. After this though the newly found Lennox boast was putting Duane under lots of pressure and he proceeded to take the next two games quite comfortably. 1 up Hill
Ben vs Rory.
Rory started well and played good solid squash to take the first, after this Ben moved up a gear taking the ball early, with both players playing well this was a great game to watch with Ben winning 3-1. 1-1
Mark vs Pett the younger
Alex started well winning the first 3 points but then the old man kicked into gear winning the next 17. It was then that the old man started to slow, Alex took advantage of this and won the next 3 games narrowly taking the last 10-8, a good debut win for Alex. 2-1 Hill
Matt G vs Jon
Didn’t see this match but 2 weeks’ worth of fatherhood doesn’t seem to have troubled the better Matt. A good win for Bexley. 2-2
It came down to the number 5’s Captain Badger vs Captain Bushell
Matt “the reactions of a Puma the brain of a” Badger vs Ray “I play squash from the 80’s” Bushell
Matt was pleased to see that Laney wasn’t playing and a smile could be seen on his face, unusual for a match against the Hill. It was nip and tuck in the first two, both players running and playing well with a game apiece. Matt took the third and there were cries of “concentrate”, “focus”, “hit it harder” (that was me) and “be happy”?? from the Bexley supporters. Half way through the 4th with Matt in control it was now he thought he could show us all his new shot, a week away on the piste and Matt had been dreaming of this moment for some time, the hours of practice had been completed and a packed gallery watched as he served. The ball hit the front wall just above the service line and dropped about 4 feet short of the short line, yes ladies and gentlemen, Matt had just invented the drop serve! The crowd watched in awe, some members called their loved ones, nobody will forget the day they witnessed the first drop serve. Matt won 3-1 after we had all stopped laughing.
As always, great food and good banter in the bar.
