Report: | Having just got back some 14 hours after leaving for the trip to Rodmersham, it is a big relief to have a 5-0 win in the back pocket.
A new leaner meaner fighting machiner Neil gave Jason more than just a run for his money. Having been in secret training over the Christmas period (that takes some serious mental strength) Neil was moving well and cutting the ball in with confidence. Fortunately for the away side Jason was able to deal with the assault and counter-attack to edge home in a very tight three games.
Meanwhile Jam was in what looked like fine form as had Malcom checking all the corners for dust, repeatedly. The home player battled hard but Jam eased home in three, and then claimed he wasn't happy with his ball strike!!
Despite being two rubbers down, the Rodders boys were fighting hard. First, Martin saved game balls in the first to edge it 10/9 and then continued to fire in the nicks albeit with slightly less success as the match wore on allowing Will to seal the deal for Dulwich 3-1.
Then in marked contrast to the bouncing ball on their court, Tom & Paul appeared to have picked up a pebble off the Calais coastline and proceeded to pick off winniers at will. Both players had clearly agreed that anything over 5 shots was unacceptable, and certainly no more than two to the back was allowed. After a fast & furious seventeen and a half minutes of play Paul had it in 5.
John came out of the traps flying, Tim seemed to have been unable to work out how to get out of the traps. At 0/9 0/5 it was not looking good for the Dulwich captain, as John powered around the court, picking the ball off and putting it away with apparent ease. However, finally Tim realised he was actually on court & should put the the ball a 'little' closer to the wall. John managed to still edge the game but the Channel tide had turned. Tim started to win more rallies (and believe me these were gut wrenching, leg burning rallies) eventually closing out the match in an enjoyable (for the crowd) 5 games.
Despite having to pack passports, camping gear and a survival pack, the trip into the depths of the Kent countryside was a lot of fun. Again the full complement stayed to eat & there have been no reported after affects of Tom's cooking.
Great pub/club. Love it. |
