Report: | Following on from last weeks impressive win over summer champions Biggin Hill, Bromley were looking to extend their winning streak against Dulwich.
The match began with Father and Son combo (McMeckans) taking on Nick and Duncan at 4 and 2 respectively.
Alistair had been suffering from a severe bout of flu over the weekend, and there were questions over his ability to even complete the match. Nevertheless he ran away with the first game 9 - 2. The next two games were evenly traded at 9 - 5 each, but Nick fought back and won the fourth 9 - 8.
Alistair then went into early lead in the fifth, and led 8 - 5, but again Nick wouldn't lie down and levelled the scores at 8 - 8. Alistair set one and managed to put enough pressure on his opponent to force an error, and then won the next rally to record an impressive win 3 - 2, despite his illness.
On the other court Ian, having moved up to number 2 due to a depleted squad was looking to record his 11th successive win in priory. He won the first 9 -7, but Duncan upped his game in the second and won it convincingly 9 - 1. Duncan continued his impressive play and went into an 8 - 2 lead in the third. Ian fought back to 8 - 6, but Duncan managed to close it out 9 - 6. The fourth followed a similar pattern to the third with Duncan taking an early 8 - 2 lead. Ian then fought back but lost out 9 - 6, ending his long winning streak 3 - 1. If only he had the same determination as his
father.
With the matches level at 1 - 1, Dutch newcomer Michel took on Ian at 3, whilst Andy took on Mark at 5.
Andy has been in impressive form recently and won the first two games 10 - 8, 9 - 7 with some consistent rallying. Errors started to creep into Andy's game though and coupled with fatigue, Mark fought back and won the next two 9 - 2, 9 - 4. Having won the previous two games comfortably, Mark took an early 8 - 2 lead in the fifth. Mark began to lose concentration though after a dodgy let call by the marker which would have given Mark the match. Andy fought back to 8 - 6,
but Mark managed to re - group and hold on and win 9 - 6 taking the match 3 - 2.
Michel is a bit of unknown quantity having joined Bromley in the last month. He showed his form in the first winning 9 - 0, before losing the second 9 - 5. This was only a slight blip on what was otherwise an impressive performance. His superior fitness and deft touches round the front helped him win the third 9 - 1 and the fourth 9 - 5, taking the match 3 - 1 and levelling the overall match 2 - 2.
As was the case last week, the match went down to the wire, with the No 1's being the decisive rubber. Lewis prevailed last week against Gordon, and this week was no different. For all Matts' speed and fitness, Lewis had too much in his locker. He won the first 9 - 5 and then took the second 9 - 2. Lewis continually moved Matt around and tired him out in the third taking the game 9 - 4 and the match 3 - 0. A comprehensive win.
This gave Bromley their second consecutive 3 - 2 win. An impressive start to the season considering the loss of 3 key players. Dulwich will certainly bounce back though, this match could have easily gone in their favour, and with their new Number One starting soon, I'm sure they will quickly move up the table.
