Report

Report:Biggin Hill IIs made Dulwich I work very hard for maximum points from this pulsating encounter.

There was little sign of the drama ahead as Jason edged a tight first against Rory before winning in 3, and Paul crisply struck the ball for Ray to chase after on his way to a straight games win. Jam had seen a drop in temperature of 40 degrees Celsius on travelling back from Malaysia to the UK, but his game was still red hot as he despatched Mark 3-0.

So on to the business end of the evening and the Hill Billies 2 started to apply the pressure. Ollie had Tim in all sorts of trouble winning the first two games from behind. Ollie continued to speed around the court faster than Defoe headed back to Spurs and the third game could have gone either way at 6-6 before Tim finally got on the score board 9/6. However, Ollie was far from done firing in winners before chasing down near winners from his opponent and getting to 8-6. A few match balls followed and there was still a titanic tussle for supremacy enjoyed by the crowd [but probaby not by the players!] before Tim sneaked the game. Ollie finally ran out of steam from his engine in the fifth and the match was won by the home player.

Meanwhile, Will was having an equally close encounter with super charged John. Having flown in from a week on the piste, John seemed bigger & stronger than ever hitting the ball faster than the naked eye could see. This proved to be a problem for Will as the two combatants shared the opening spoils but, having finally got his eye in, the match seemed won as he led 2-1 and even had time in between games to pop up stairs to check on his cooking. Clearly realising the sausages needed to simmer slightly longer Will allowed John to roar his way back from 5-8 in the fourth to take the game in to a 5th set. However, now beset by cramp John was in trouble and the humane thing would have been for Will to finish him off, but instead he allowed John to launch himself around the court to pick up a few points before finally finishing him off. Having promised to not quote John as asking for his Mum when the cramp struck, I won’t.

A great battle, lots of chat at the meal afterwards, the jury is still out on whether Ray's mountainous helping was bigger than Mark's two hillocks. Great to see all 10 players staying for food (especially when hearing it was Will’s!).
