Report: | Biggin Hill played host to another top of the table clash with Dulwich, and it delivered another tight battle that went to the wire.
Once the home team had been introduced to each other and shown where the changing rooms were play could commence.
Iain has always been a quality player, and his mercurial racket skills had Ravi visiting all corners of the court. Tiringly for Ravi they always seemed so far from the previous one. One nil BH.
Meanwhile on the court next door, Lee was attacking with verve, and his all out assault seemed to unsettle the normally serene Pete. However, the Dulwich man calmed the waters with some beautifully paced shots, and after the first Lee seemed to run out of gas. Slightly ironic given he is back in squash after a soiree into bio-diesel! A quality encounter enjoyed by all. One-a-piece.
Dulwich club runner-up Will started with passsion and seemed to catch Phil on the hop. Putting in one of his best games the Dulwich crew have seen he was edged out by his more illustrious opponent in the first, before the effort took its toll. BH 2-1.
Parity was restored by Jason who started unusually slowly for someone so fast, but soon got in to his stride. A highly athletic encounter, played at a fast & furious pace. Two-a-piece.
So it was down to the number 1s. Stacey started well and easily one the first, Tim bounced back to level things. After a poor start in the third Stacey got back on top with some lovely kills and cross-court cuts. Tim again got off to a good start in the fourth opening up leads of 5-0 & 7-4, but Stacey held his nerve eventually sneaking it 9/7 on a stroke. BH 3-2
The best team on the night won, the food was great, it was good to see some of the BH stalwarts in the stands and just a shame the members all missed out on an entertaining night as the away support confortable out numbered the home.
ps. hopefully the sponsor will put some money into cleaning up the courts so they are worthy of the team they field.
Captain Mortimer
Nice report Timothy. Don't know what you mean about the condition of the courts, in fact you are possibly the first person to ever complain about them!
Please note that all Biggin Hill 1st team home fixtures are Monday nights. Don't want you to forget this over the christmas break |
