Report: | Rite, first of all I wish to complain about this Internet programme! I had the best match report, but I left my computer for 2 minutes (when I spilt my Lemsip) and the blooming thing has managed to delete the work of art that you would have been able to read. I will try to remember the majority of it, but that sort of creative writing only comes around every century or so.
The match started off in usual circumstances, Iain patrolling the car park waiting for his opponent to turn up (moaning because he wasn't able to go on first for the second week running), and desperately trying to find out his ETA, name, number and whether he was usually late! But unfortunately for Iain, Ben was not there dead on 7.30, so the captain and young one decided to play instead, much to Iain's dissatisfaction!
Alex went on against Steve and judging by the scores this was a game that he controlled from start to finish. Not a bad result for the second youngest Biggin Hill player (12 days older than Junior John) who only just escaped with a victory against an in form James Mac from BCC in the Cup last week.
On the other court, Mortimer was struggling to get to terms with his match, playing some really wiffy stuff at times and generally having a stinker. Ian on the other hand was playing some truly outrageous shots; leaving his opponent flat footed and needing a taxi to get anywhere near them. Ian built up a 8/4 lead in the first and was a whisker away from taking it, but a few too many errors allowed his opponent to get back and close it out 10/8. The second and third games were a little better from my prospective, apart from a shocking decision from Drew, who admitted that he was talking to someone and not paying any attention on what he was doing.
The 'Kronenbourg Monster' was up next and seemed to be in a hurry (I wonder why?). He rattled off the first game 9/0 and Ben looked perplexed as to what had just happened. A few comments from the balcony and a question from the sponsor about how Iain was doing on the senior tour, seemed to distract the thoroughbred, giving Ben an opportunity to get into his stride. There were a few good exchanges after this, Ben moving superbly round the court to pick up some unbelievable shots. But Iain is quicker than he looks and managed to waddle around sufficiently, hitting some amazing shots to ensure he won it in 3.
Didn't see a single shot from this match, the main talk in the bar afterwards was geared towards Lee's shiny racket and how nice it looks. So other than mentioning that, not a lot for me to work with there.
Up last were the Might Mac and Jeremy. This proved to be the best game of the night. It ebbed and flowed with both players hitting a compliment of stunning winners, but some truly shocking errors. It looked in the balance at 1 game all and 7 points all, but alas for Jeremy, Gordon managed to sneak home in the third and played a very solid fourth to take the match and a 5-0 win for BH.
In the bar later we were treated to more squash tactics talk from Iain. His views get better every week! He commented on how Alex doesn't know how to win matches. Strange thing was that Alex won 3-0 only a couple of hours earlier, even stranger was that Iain marked that match!
The Dulwich guys were great company and hopefully enjoyed the mixed grill which we had to feast on. The chat was mainly geared around the big clash against their first team, which has been moved to Wednesday 18 March so anyone can come down to watch, not just because I was semi struggling to get a team out!
