Report

Report:The proverbial relegation 6-pointers don't get much bigger and the winner of this one would likely go into the final, rearranged, fixtures in pole position.

First on Lee and Tom. I only saw the first, a tight game with errors from both players but Lee took an 8-5 lead. A brief lack of concentration plus some lovely stuff from Tom at the front saw it go to 8-8 but Lee held on. From then on it was fairly one way traffic bar the odd bit of brilliance from Lee. Tom closed out a good 3-1 win.

At the same time on the other court was the joy to mark that was Andy and Andy. Both players getting in each others way and calling everything marginal/feasible/unfeasible/downright stupid led to a really fun game, Blackman eventually taking the match 3-1.

Matt v Rich Kimpton next on. A tight first saw Rich edge it before Matt found his range and his ability to retrieve and make Rich always play one more shot eventually took it's toll. Another 3-1 to Beckenham.

Paul v Neil was a really interesting clash of styles. Paul reads the game so well, runs and runs, and Neil has some amazing, nay unbelievable, winners in his armour. Neil took good leads in all three games but Paul was able to edge back into contention each time and took what was far from an easy 3-0 win.

Finally on was Si v Rich J. By this time it was a dead rubber but both players keen for the win having had a marathon 5 setter in the first half. The first two games followed the same sort of pattern, very close up to 6-6 before Si managed to forge ahead and take the games. The third seemed to be a matter of getting to the bar quickly to celebrate St Pat's.

All in all a good win for Beckenham for a match which on paper looked close. Beckenham now safe, for Bromley, we'll see you in the summer at least.
