Report: | Parklangley's best looking and most lady pleasing team managed to pick up a vital win against a friendly and social Sundridge Park side.
2. First up was Kevin vs Justin in the number two spot. Not nearly as comfortable as the scores may suggest, Kevin managed to get a run of 4 or 5 quick points in each of the games as well as taking advantage of Justin often finding the top millimetre of the tin with a point-winning shot.
3. On the other court Gerald appeared to be able to keep just ahead of Billy, while I didn't see much of this Gerald managed to mix his shots up sufficiently to take the points for PL3.
1. At 2-0 Zeb faced Kevin in a match SP1 needed to clinch to keep the match alive. Zeb's good form continued although much like the No2s the game points don't tell the full story with Kevin putting Zeb under not-inconsiderable pressure for most of the match. Zeb managed to win most of the long, high-quality rallies though and emerged victorious.
5. The sounds echoing from the other court indicated to your scribe that not all was going well for PL3 at number 5. Ian went 2-0 against Mike who managed to dig in in the 3rd to grab a point for Parklangley, witnesses report the match to be a fairly even affair with Ian winning points at the right times to record a win for SP2.
4. The final game of the night was certainly the closest with 3 out of the 4 games going to 8-8. The contrasting styles of Trev and Andy were evident from the off and it tended to be the player who could impose their style that would take the points. At the end of the very high quality short balls, straight drives and lobs Andy managed to sneak over the line 10-9 in the fourth to win his game 3-1.
A very enjoyable evening with the Sundridge Park lads proving to be most welcome guests. Thanks for the match and hope to see you back soon... where we will aim to stop random members of the Parklangley club tucking into Trevor's egg and chips... |
