Report: | An enjoyable evening had by all, I hope.
A depleted Beckenham side without their regular 1 and 2 took on the Bromley LT team expected. The match went the way anticipated given the missing players of the home team, but Bromley took their opportunity very clinically. Cathy and Ron was a good game with Ron playing some good tight squash and Cathy's recent foray's into racketball being quite evident. Maybe should have been tighter but Ron did well to close it out in three and never let Cathy get into her stride.
Missed all of Rob v Nick and Nevil v Terry due to marking and playing but some good contests by all account, Rob unlucky not to nick the third but beaten by a good young player who was far too quick for him and Terry being a little too old and wise for an out of practice Nevil.
Your author against Ian H was a good game to watch apparantly and and enjoyable one to play in. With the ball flying about and refusing to die on a surprisingly warm court, Si's speed to the ball and ability to retrieve most shots probably made the difference and Ian will count himself unlucky not to have nicked at least a game.
Last on was Ian and Keith, a prospect that noone wanted to mark judging by the dissapearance of most players to the bar/changing rooms. Nobly Terry stepped up to the plate and he was immaculate, in stark contrast to the squash on display! (only joking guys - ish)
A tricky sort of affair as Ian tends to make them due to his clever match play, the game swung one way then the other for long periods, neither player really taking control. In the end, rather than Ian's clever drop shots finally doing for Keith, it was a series of screaming backhand kills from all over the court that made the difference in the fifth.
All in all, Bromley had it wrapped up early on to be fair but a weakened home side put up a good fight and we all enjoyed a rather large curry afterwards. |
