Report: | Parklangley's best looking and most lady pleasing side greeted their local rivals in a very enjoyable encounter.
The number 1s went on first. Showing only a minor after affect of the weekends stag do, Kevin managed to pull out a victory. Simon will feel unlucky not to have taken the 2nd where he had a few games balls, but ultimately he found the tin too often over the three games enabling PL3 to take the first match.
Over on the other court Darren seemed to be finding it hard going against Ian who played confidently, taking advantage of the width he was too often (from a PL3 point of view) afforded. He may have took his foot off the pedal a little in the third but was able to come back well to take victory and leave the match poised at 1-1.
Gerald and Cathy went on at 3. A very enjoyable game to watch with both players giving everything and, refreshingly, trying to actually play squash as opposed to pleading to the marker for points. The first two games were tightly fought. Gerald played good squash but couldn't take the few opportunities that he was given. Cathy battled well, kept the ball tight and managed to sneak over the line in these first two before pushing on in the third, leaving the match at 2-1 to Beck.
The 4s were on the other court, I didn't see much of this put it was good encounter by all counts with Trev putting Rob under presure with some tight drops. The first three games were fairly one-sided affairs as regards the score but a nail-biting fourth that swung Trev's way enabled PL3 to level the scores at 2-2.
The 5s went on last to decided the game. Neville started well in the first going 5-0 up until Mike switched on a fought back well to take the first 9-5. From here on Mike played well against a talented opponent who made a few too many errors at crucial times. While it was tight at times, Mike played well to take a 3-0 win and with it secure victory for PL3, 3-2.
The Beckenham gang were their usual entertaining sorts after the match, Lee appears close to returning and happily spent most of the even showing his verbals are still intact. Enjoyable evening had by all I think and we look forward to the return |
