Report

Report: In the absence of a match report from the home captain, I’ll write one instead.

From the outset things weren’t looking too good for BCC for this clash. Their new number one failed to show due to a family week away (no commitment), and their number two arrived suffering with symptoms that can only be described as the onset of the male menopause.

Although Mr Menopausal was clearly suffering, he took the first with some good cross court shots. The 2nd and 4th games were nip and tuck, but Menopausal was resembling a listing ship in the fifth and lost 0-9.

On the other court was junior Menopausal in his now familiar tight tee-shirt. Things started well and he soon went 2 games up. However, like senior menopausal, he blew it and ended up losing 2-3 to a rejuvenated Guy.

Didn’t see any of the number 3’s match, but the result speaks volumes for the boy’s of BCC and their stamina. From 2 games up, Dan ended up losing 2-3.

The numbers 4’s looked like a classic clash against runner verses shot player. As normally happens at this level, the runner ran out the winner 3-0.

With the match already won by Nuffield Health (although the club may have changed names again at the time of writing this report), the number 1’s match was a bit of an anti climax. Neither player played well, but with the crowd being kept amused with some peculiar marking, I managed to scrape through 3-0.

There was a rush to shower and to get to the bar before it closed at it’s earlier time of 10.40pm apparently due to the change of (another) ownership to a health company. Although, bizarrely, they were caught on the hop by a request for orange juice and had to send someone off to find some.

Food and banter all good fun. Most satisfied person on the night must have been BCC’s only supporter, Mr Leffen. In spite of his cheap suit he managed to blag free drinks and a free meal without paying any subs.
