Report:Match scores correct ... games scores are as correct as I can remember without the scoring sheets - MB

Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, its off to Bexley we go………..

John was getting his excuses in early in the car journey up. “Don’t like the courts, they’re too slow!!” Already it wasn’t looking good for a team on a nine match losing streak. The journey also provided time for a quick survey of who wanted which scoring - “lets try par, nothing else has worked for us” marginally won over “don’t care”. This proved to be irrelevant anyway, as Bexley elected for HiHo.

A quick summary of the match. First on was John who managed to make the courts look quick. Steve looked quite unorthodox, but very effective, and in spite of John fighting hard for each game simply had too much in the way of shots.

Steph vs Steve – only saw the opening half a game, in which both players went for a lot of attacking boasts. Steve had brought his son along to watch, but clearly that didn’t help as after 2 tight games Steph pulled away in the third. Well played and 2-0 to Bexley.

Andy vs Scott – the match of the night. Andy has been in fine form this season and started this match very confidently, taking the first game and stealing a 6-0 lead in the 2nd. Scott then slowed everything right down, Andy lost his rhythm, and Scott reeled in the 2nd and took the third comfortably. Andy managed to regroup for the 4th, and by the 5th Scott was looking a little bit jaded. Andy capitalised to pull at tie back for TW.

Colin vs Matt – after some lengthy opening exchanges Colin dominated. Not a lot to add really.

Jolyon v Andy – the decider. Andy pulled his bum in the knock up. Not an injury I’m overly familiar with but it seemed to affect his movement quite significantly and thus the result of the match.

So TW squeaked home and ended their losing streak. We’ll still finish last I suspect, but given the number of teams in the league this season we’re hoping if we can retain the same personal we’ll be welcome back next summer.

Good food and chat in the bar afterwards, and on the journey home we discovered why you don’t see as much wildlife in Kent as you used to. John’s run over most of it.

On the PAR issue we remain open minded. The consensus was the HIHO led to a better match on this occasion. We’ll play PAR against anyone who wants to for the first half of the Winter League and then review. The jury is still out…………
