Report

Report:Being injured has one advantage, the ability to have a beer and watch others labour on a squash court. Especially when the squash is the calibre of some of the above matches. Bennett versus Wakabayashi was the highlight of the evening. Park Langley identified the backhand of Yohay W as his weakness, so Michael B was duly instructed to put everything there which he tried to do. The Dulwich man meanwhile decided to do the opposite. He started by serving on hand-out to the forehand which he maintained throughout the game. Pressing Michael B to the back of the court, especially on the forehand side, and avoiding the short game, he won the tactical battle and the game.

A tremendous match and a pleasure to mark, a comment that is not made with the frequency one should expect. Park Langley, it must be said, have always been tough opponents on court and able to share a beer or ten after the match.

Nic W ran over Adam, a match that was won in the second game when Nic acme from 4-8 down to win the game. Unfortunately a back injury stopped Adam from competeing as he would have liked thereafter. Meanwhile Matt K and Dave H played British Bulldogs on the other court with the big Park Langlian the victor. Trevor Grant then bounded onto court eager to meet the challenge of Ben G. Trevor was beaten by Ben G in a techhnically difficult match, as all games against Trevor tend to be. The entire array of squash shots are tested by Trevor in order to exploit any weaknesses in his opponent and even at his age (60? Trev?) he is a credible competitor. But Ben has improved his fitness and with that his technical ability and that showed in this contest.

That left Dr Harsum versus Simon "marathon man" Grey. Grey had completed a five set victory against Dulwich 1st team at no 5 on the Tuesday and was invovled in another long match played at an astonishing pace. The doctor however played with the surgical precision of a rampantly hungry anteater and won in a tight match which the game scores do not accurately reflect.

An enjoyable evening, even taking into account the Park Langley manager's interesting vocal support. Look forward to the winter.
