Report

Report:Dean still lives in the bronze age and doesn't have a computer, so he's left me to do this week's match report...

Probably the tightest victory Bexley 3 has had in a long time- the tie could have gone either way, with only Simon managing to get a straight forward 3-0 win. I didn't see the match, but could occasionally look over to see Paul winding up to bash the granny out of the ball which on a warm night like last night, was probably not the best idea.

On at the same time was Iain and Cristo. Apart from being nearly impossible to mark, it was actually really enjoyable to watch- one decision I gave a let for was a 'no-let' to Cristo and somehow concurrently a 'stroke' in Iain's mind- I think everybody could see what I was up against!

Both players were obviously desperate to win as it was 1-1 between them in previous matches. But it was Cristo with his Rafa Nadalesque pauses between serves that helped him clinch it 9-5 in the fifth after having taken an early 5-0 lead.

Next on were the number 5 and 1 strings. I didn't see Adam's match, but the scorecard shows it was equally as epic as my match next door with Lee which was the best run around I've had so far this Summer by far, to the point that being on the losing end of 3 2 didn't bother me so much; which you can't say too often. However, I was a bit more bothered when I saw that Dean was losing next door...

By this point, Dean was 2-1 down, but came back to clinch it comfortably in the end with a 9 3 and a 9 2. There were plenty of strokes going Dean's way, and I think he worked out what Simon worked out against Paul- if he just keeps it going and doesnt hit the tin, he'll let the other player over hit the ball and hit the tin a bit. That said, Dean did well to keep his head down knowing he had to get the win for the team and finished off with some great squash.

So, 3-2 overall which was a great win for Bexley keeping us safely in fifth place, and a nice and deserved points haul for Beckenham who were unlucky not to get more. Depsite Bexley having a weakened side, everyone played up and did well. Good banter at the bar afterwards, proceeded by 'some food' that Adam layed out. Regretfully, I left just in time to miss out.
