Report: | Small clubs tend to suffer in league matches at peak holiday times and in Bromley's case this problem was compounded by injuries in three of the regular squad. Neil, bless him, knowing that Bromley was going to struggle fielded slightly less than his strongest team but the atmosphere was relaxed and summery. He went on court with Chris Westcott who, like himself, had had a lay-off and for a while the two were evenly matched. But Chris was the fitter and could drop Neil almost at will towards the end. Peter made a good start against Alex until in the second and third games Alex began his usual antics of swearing at the marker, delaying the game and threatening to drill the ball at the opponent. If there is a prat award at the next AGM for worst behaviour on court Alex would probably win it hands down. Needless to say, the previously friendly atmosphere on court went a bit sour, the marker asking to be replaced and everyone but Alex feeling inhibited. Chris and Ray, on the other hand, behaved immaculately, Ray taking until the third game to come to terms with Chris' pace and accuracy but by then it was too late. Over a tasty meal things relaxed again but the unpleasant aftertaste was not due to that. |
