Report

Report:This weeks visitors were second placed Nuffield Health or Cannons (take your pick). Having lost 4-1 to them in the first half with BCC losing three of the rubbers 2-3, we were out for revenge. However, with a number of our players out on holiday, revenge looked unlikely.

First on were the number 4’s. I only saw brief glimpses of this match whilst marking another match, but on paper Graham was always going to struggle against the more mobile Guy and so it proved to be. However, Graham did win the 2nd game 9 /1 which was a substantial improvement on last weeks performance where I’m told he struggled to hit the front wall. 3-1 to Nuffield Health or Cannons.

On the other court were the number 3’s. Again on paper this was an easy win for Dan, but given that Dan was off school the day they taught reading, what was written down on paper was immaterial. At 2-2 in the first game Dan let his superior class shine through to take the game 9/3. Riding on a high, Dan did what Dan does best and lost the next 2 games as Mark retrieved everything and hit a few good winners. At 0-8 down in the fourth it looked like curtains for Dan. However, Dan recaptured some of his form in the first game and amazingly came back to 8-8. With Dan leading 9-8 Dan did what Dan does best and lost 9-10. 3-1 to Nuffield Health or Cannons.

I was next on with Will at number 2. Having returned from holiday early on Tuesday morning I wasn’t expecting to play but got the dreaded call in the morning to say that I was needed as the deputy captain had had a bizarre accident over the weekend involving a tent pole! The rectum specialist doctors had managed to extract it but at some cost to Alan’s mobility.

The dreaded bloody paper said I should win, but after two weeks on the beer I knew I was going to struggle. Fortunately Will had attended reading classes and having understood what was on the paper he let me win this match although he didn’t make it as comfortable for me as the paper said he should have. 3-0 BCC.

On the other court were the number 5’s. Given that the paper said we should win at number 1, this rubber was going to decide the outcome of the match. As I was on the other court I didn’t see any of this, but as the score reflects, Ross’ first appearance for BCC was an inspired team selection by BCC’s score bum deputy captain. 3-0 BCC.

At 2-2 on went the number 1’s. Neil was in a different class to Paul and the match resembled a cat playing with a mouse. However, Paul did manage the odd surprise that caught out the fat cat but it was all to no avail. 3-0 BCC.

On the back of a BCC win and having spotted the lasagne Neil decided to stay for food this week. With each lasagne portion nearly taking up the entire surface of the plate, everyone struggled to finish their food except, of course, Dan who went on for second helpings. No doubt Dan was building up his energy levels for the gruelling fitness campaign that he is planning to embark on at some stage.
