Report: | Bromley went into this match with the slimmest of slim chances of promotion (although not, it has to be said, the slimmest of teams). We needed to make up an unlikely 16 points on rivals Cannons in order to snatch 2nd place in the league. Inevitably it was not to be as, although Bromley only fell 1 point short of the maximum 20 in winning their 6th successive match, Cannons won their match to claim the other promotion spot behind Acacia. So well done to both of them.
Adam and Neil as expected won comfortably enough. Chris battled gamely enough but was only able to match Adam in the colour stakes - Chris's face and Adam's shirt - DEEP RED. The only noise emanating from the next court came when Alex won his 1st point. Such jubilation.
By contrast the other games were much more evenly matched. Dan and Kevin had a really good scrap, with Dan just about holding his nerve to nick it at the death. No worries about water shortages in Blackheath - just get Kevin to wring his shirt out!!.
I didn't see much of Graham's match as he was halfway through his game before most people had even turned up - a good win.
My game with Dan was a bizarre mix of mistakes, mishits, and outrageously uneven bounces off of the outrageously uneven surfaces that is Court 1 at Blackheath. Even on match ball Dan played a drive into my backhand corner where the ball then hit something and bounced vertically halfway up the backwall. Sour grapes? Of course.
Just as well we didn't miss out on promotion by the one point.
