Report: | Postponed until 26/01 due to snow though the temperature was not much higher by the time the match was played, with the temperature on court seemingly only a few degrees higher than that in the car park. Dulwich were without Steve Harsum and Beckenham had to make do without Lee Greenwood. The number 3 seeds went on first. This was a close encounter that went the distance in favour of Simoan Joyce of Beckenham. Once the match went into the fifth game the younger man whose legs carried about two stone less than his older opponent, probably had the advantage.
Ed Knox, contesting the number 5 rubber, made unusually light work of his opponent, who is better than the scoreline suggests. Then on went Olly versus Paul at number 2 and Nic versus Ian at number 4. Olly lost the first game easily. Then the Dulwich man began to grind out the rallies which drew the errors and the victory.
The match of the night however belonged to Nic Winning. Two games down and heading for defeat, Nic was suddenly roused from the effects of his pre-match nap. The catalyst was some interesting gamesmanship (of which no complaint is made as it was all within the rules) but which plainly annoyed the Dulwich man who then took the three games needed to win the match.
This left the number one seeds to contest the final match. Ben quickly got into his rhythm and was able to control the match which along with his retrieving ability wa sufficient to beat Matt who was ably deputising at number 1.
An enjoyable encounter as always against a team who would be much higher if they were able to consistently field their strongest five.
