Report: | Results removed and I'll contact our friend at Bexley.
Usual match with our friends at David LLoyd was spoiled somewhat by nonsense. My contact details are on the team page if anyone needs to have further info.
No 1s and 2s went on first and had decent game. Kevin and Peter in particular had a tight, close match with a number of quality winners from Peter and Kevin a little lucky to scrap through. Fergus played well but was up against a top quality opponent playing well.
At 1-1 the fun began. Gordon went on with Trevor at 4 while we awaited Fitz and Andrew, the oppo called them to find out where they were. Gerald and Mike then sat around until 9.30 when Andrew turned up. Mike was going on vs Andrew when it then appears Fitz was no longer in the country so Andrew had to play at 3. Of course he was nominated below Gordon (a fact he admitted in the bar afterwards when he though he played at 4 below Gordon). Someone was then frantically called but, while we waited for arrival, at 9.45 with the court left vacant for some 30mins after Gordon and Trevor finished and no opponent in sight we had no option but to take the points. Gordon and Trev had a close tight game which Gordon won 3-1 (including two 10-9s) but as Andrew was out of sync I don't think it counts... Gerald fairly comfortably beat Andrew as was expected of a 3 vs 5. Unfortunately all this ruined what is normally a friendly night but the oppo really should treat our players with more respect, turn up at 7.30, have a full team and not try and lie to us with claims of a changed order being put in the week before, despite the fact that none of their own team where aware of this and their "3" thought he was playing 4 in his usual position. I should point out that the players who turned up were not at fault rather the captain on the end of the phone.
As i wrote at the top let me know if anyone needs more information or clarification on this but i'm swamped at work hence why i haven't put it up until now. Enjoyable chat in the bar with Gordon and Andrew and I hope we can get proper teams out next time for the usual good event.
Sorry Kev you have the wrong end of the stick, what would Andrew know about what position he would play for the 2nd half of the season? as i am the captain. Also we did have a 5th player turn up but Mike had to leave as he had work very early in the morning.I think we should leave it to the powers that be to sort it out.
ps thanks for switching the venue to Old Dunstioans which was freezing cold with no showers
cheers. Neville |
