Report

Report:Parklangley's best looking and most lady pleasing team, were a little less best looking and lady pleasing due their top two being unavailable (due to work incident and a first team poaching incident) with the fox filling in from the 4ths. We welcomed our close and special friends at Bromley CC with glee and anticipation.

2. Gerald and Tom went on first. Enjoyable and interesting game, Gerald was staying in the rallies and waiting for Tom’s mistakes – a flurry of which let Gerald in to take the first. At 7-4 up in the second Gerald could have nicked that one too but unfortunately Tom came back strongly. This continued into the third and while the fourth was close Gerald was not able to prevent BCC going 1-0 up.

5. Over on the other court BFF’s Mike and Andy were battling it out. Andy took a lead in the first while Mike struggled to find his tempo. Once found however Mike took control and while Andy battled back well in the third Mike took it and then powered on to take the match 3-1. Interesting discussions to be had following this one as to rulings relating to changing direction and no let/let/stroke awardation (newly created word, does it make sense?). Match score 1-1.

4. Trev and Graham went on next. Graham playing significantly different tactics to normal got the run on Trev in the first. The PL stalwart came back well in the second and we were all ready for a close game. Some clever, inventive and accurate shots for the visitor, however, prevented Trevor from getting into the rallies and Graham closed out for a close, but deserved 3-1 victory. 2-1 to BCC

3. Andy stepping in again to help his mates out was up against quality opposition with Richard. Didn’t see much of this but after apparently trading blows in the first Richard stepped on the gas to take the next two with some ease. 3-1 to BCC.

1. Kevin and Matt went on last in a now dead rubber. Matt never really go going in this one and Kevin’s successful tactic of using a broken racket on a slow and dying court somehow worked as a succession of dodgy drops hit the front wall and then stopped. Final result 3-2 to BCC.

The usual high class and high quality conversion was again to be found in the dining rooms after the match, with the BCC more than welcome guests. Hope to see you all in the summer.

Cheers
