Report

Report:Although Tunbridge Wells had blown their chances of promotion due to playing Mr A Ringer (twice), we were still keen to beat Tunbridge after they had inflicted one of our worse defeats of the season at their place. However, things werent going well when on Tuesday afternoon our number one, Adam Show Boat Pyne, withdrew with a pulled arm muscle. At first I didnt believe him as Adam doesnt possess any arm muscles, but he assured me it was genuine and that the injury wasnt as a result of over tugging in the bathroom.

So first on was the substitute number one, Neil Teletubbie Atkins and Steve. Fearing that he might be on the end of a good hiding given that he hasnt been playing regularly, Teletubbie took the first two games although both games were uncharacteristically littered with loose shots by both players. Steve decided to go for more percentage squash in the third and won it comfortably 9-2. In the break Teletubbie was taking in more air than an asthmatic marathon runner and knew that he had to win the next game as he wouldnt last a fifth. He went into a 4-0 lead which gave him the incentive to hang in when on another day he would have given up. Steve mounted a mini revival, but Teletubbie wasnt going to crack and took it 9-4 to win the match 3-1.

On the other court were the number fours, Steve and Chris. I only saw the first game in which Steve just couldnt get a proper length going and fed Chris with too many easy winning shots to take it 9-2. Other two games had similar scores so I guess not much changed from the first game.

Next on was last weeks man-of-the-match, Graham, and Ian. Didnt see any of this but if there ever was a case of going from hero to zero this was it. 3-0 Ian.

I was on next with John. I started off far too loose with my shots which John punished with some tight winning shots and comfortably took the first two games although still found cause to moan to the marker a couple of times. In the third game I concentrated on just keeping it tight and to make the rallies last longer and won it 9-2. My comeback was short lived though as John was back to his best and took the match 3-1.

On the other court was Dan Teletubbie 2 Sweeney and Streett. Only saw the last game of this, but Teletubbie 2 let a two game lead slip to allow Streett to level it at two games each. Im told that during one of these games there was a delay in play as the marker sought guidance from the great man above to help with a marking decision. After a moment of contemplation, Gods decision was a let. Can't argue with that.

In the fifth Streett took an early lead before Teletubbie 2 started to fight back, but a series of ill judged boasts by Teletubbie 2 meant that he lost the fifth game 5-9. God just wasnt on his side in that game.

So we lost again to Tunbridge, but given that our points tally was a 600% increase on the points tally the last time we played, the moral victory was Bromleys as Im sure God would agree.

Banter and food were all good fun although there was some debate about the lack of meat in the vegetable sausages.

PS - John, a bit childish of you to alter the match report don't you think?

Its only a joke.

Whatever.
