Report: | Brief report. Didn’t see a huge amount of the squash.
First up new member Peter vs Mark. Saw a little of the opening exchanges……Peter playing tidy tight squash with a few flicks thrown in at the right moments. Mark struggling a little to find any rhythm from the start. Two fairly one sided games for Peter, Mark pulled one back and it looked like we could be in for a long one, but Peter then cleaned up in the 4th. Opening round to Tunbridge Wells.
Next up me vs Steve. Steve struggling with movement from the 1st point, best guess is either fatigue from county weekend, having half the sole of his foot missing, or both. First two games seemed to last forever and were shared. Then at the point where I usually keel over I managed to kick on and take the next two fairly comfortably. Take the breaks as they come I guess.
Colin vs James – didn’t see one shot of this. Colin seemed happy afterwards to have got a run out without aggravating his groin. James pulls one back for Park Langley. 2-1 to Tunbridge Wells.
Paul vs Gordon – marked this one so can actually report as fact rather than speculation. Paul started like a rocket. Gordon started like a statue. Paul got a big lead in the first, but gradually Gordon started to move and get into the game. He lost the first but was in the game by the end of it. The next two games were close with Paul busting a gut to get everything and Gordon playing intelligent squash and moving well himself. Gordon took them both 9-7, reeling in Paul from a large deficit in the 3rd. By the 4th Gordon was in the groove and looked assured as he closed out 9-4. Match level at 2-2.
Andy vs Clive – the decider. I literally saw the last rally which involved Clive totally dominating, Andy scrambling round retrieving, setting Clive up for the winner only for him to smack it in the top of the tin. Ouch. 9-6 in the 4th to Andy, proving his win in the summer was no fluke.
So a 3-2 win for a strengthened TW side, but a result that could have had various different permutations, and probably will in the return fixture. Enjoyable stuff.
