Report: | David (Lloyd Amida) Beckham, sorry Beckenham, put up more resistance than their 2 point haul suggests to round off the Dulwich first half campaign.
Despite suffering more injuries than the Man Utd defence, DL put out a solid Back 4 with the Wilde family shoring up the creaking side. And it was a family act that got things going, Jamie coming out firing against the midfield dynamo that is Jason Barry. Probing all corners of the park Jamie attacked at will forcing Jason to rely on counter-attacks to put points on the board. Three even games saw Jamie lose out at the death in all three, but he was lucky not to be carded for a tumble that Ronaldo would have been proud of with Jason nowhere near.
Meanwhile, his Dad was using probing cross-field balls to disrupt Will’s pattern of play. The first was tight but soon the pressure began to take its toll as Andy started to find the tin and Will ran out victor.
Guy showed like Peter Couch he’s got 'good feet for a big man', getting on to the ball early and attacking on the volley ala Paul Scholes. Tim on the other hand moved like someone who had been out with George Best & Paul Gascoigne at the weekend, and though Will & Jason are reasonable drinking partners there’s no doubt the Dulwich Dinner & Dance [yes, it really is called that!] took its toll. However, after a wobbly start and falling behind Tim took control until Guy dug in like an Italian defence and worked his was back to take the fourth into injury time. However, there was to be no fairy tale ending and Tim was over the moon to win in 4.
As Paul T discovered it is almost as annoying for Dulwich players to beat Paul J as it is too lose to him. Displaying the patience of Robbie Savage he disappeared into the car park after the third as the red mist descended like Fog on the Tyne launching his lucozade into the distance … until it hit his windshield. Fortunately, the self administered anger management paid off and he got home in 4.
It’s a season of two halves, but Dulwich go into the Christmas break having won the first one. Olleys, Olleys, Olleys, oi oi oi!
Thats all for '09 folks. |
