Report: | A real end of season feel to the last match. Bexley saved PL the bother of fielding a half-recovered Martin by only having 4 available players.
PL turned up fashionably late as usual to find Bexley raring to go and on court warming up.
Robbins v Harrison on first.
JEJ struggled a bit in this one, looking like he probably ought to be winning it, sending Duane the wrong way and anticipating/guessing a ridiculous number of early interceptions, but Duane battled in his usual fashion to take a 2-1 lead. After this, JEJ did enough to ease through.
London jnr v May.
The usual enjoyable encounter for these two. A good run out with Steve pretty much in control but Tom putting in a very creditable shift. A big comeback from way down in the 3rd left Tom in with a chance, but Steve leant on the gas to take the 4th comfortably.
London snr v Sumner.
Mr Lobba Lobba lobba-lobbed, dinked, floated, whacked etc as usual, but for a change the author woke up rather earlier and started to pick off the backhand overheads. They were all in the nick area, but MLLs usual complement of rollers were a bit thinner on the ground than is customary. In the end, relatively controlled by the author.
Last up McManus v Brind.
Mr Moneysworth did it again for the zillionth time. Two down, just squeaked in for the 4th, but turns up a winner at the end. Could it be anyone else? A good recovery again for Mighty Mac.
And so a good end to a pretty good season for PL. The loss of Mr Lennox was just about absorbed, mainly thanks to the strength of the PL top end, and 3rd place safely pouched. Onwards and upwards for the summer after a well earned break.
Thanks to Bexley for a good match. Usual good natured stuff with them on court and banter in the bar afterwards, plus the chance to admire the latest additions to the Sumner car collection. He's starting to rival Jay Leno now! |
