Report: | So much for nominations.
The greatest minds in Bexley (Nicholson, Lewis snr, O’Reilly, Badger, Steeden, Lewis jnr) have been working on nominations for literally hours and tonight all the hard work was put to the test. On paper the 2nd team should win 4-1! How does that work?
First up.
Poorly Tom (nominated 3) vs Captain Mark (nominated 4).
Welcome back to team squash for Mr Steeden who has been uninjured now for nearly 4 months!
With a lovely bouncy ball on a warm Bexley court this wasn’t going to be a short match.
Good squash with long rallies and honours even after the first 4 games, unfortunately for poorly Tom there just wasn’t enough in the tank in the 5th with Mark taking it 11-6 and upsetting the nomination form book.
Next up Aching Duane (2) vs Ben (1)
A hard 4 games with Duane taking the 2nd with a rolling forehand crosscourt nick, normal order was resumed after that shot with Ben taking it 3-1. Nominations correct. P.S. Duane would like to thank Steve London for his dead legs.
Steve (9) vs Elliot (14)
These two were supposed to play in the club tournament at the weekend but due to unforeseen circumstances Elliot had to concede, Steve incidentally made it to the final this Saturday when he plays Mark (tickets still available). This was a tough match with hard rallies, Elliot was moving very well and Steve was volleying well. There were many contested decisions which spoilt the game to be honest but in the end Elliot’s fitness came through to win 3-2. Nomination upset.
Captain Badger (8) vs “the new” Jack (12)
Another good hard match with both players playing well, Matt after his weekend in the Bexley closed and Jack after some spring training. It was close until mid way through the 3rd when Matt stretched his legs and Jack started to struggle with the pace. 3-1 to Matt. Nominations correct.
Last up
Matt G (7) vs Christian (10)
Although both players stated that they haven’t been playing much, this was another good game, both trying to gain the advantage by taking the ball early. A couple more games like this and both will be back into their stride. 3-0 to Christian. Nomination upset.
So the 1st team wins 4-1.
Match was finished at 10:15 (started on time)
Chicken curry was great and all the usual banter.
For PAR stalwarts.
The Tom vs Mark match
First game was 6-5, the Second 5-4 and so on. It was basically two thirds the length of a normal Hi Ho game.
And yes Duane, I’ll take you up on that bet. £5 says that the 1st team finishes above the 2nd team.
